The large blown glass vase Volcano was handmade in the UK by French-Russian designer Alissa Volchkova. It is part of a collection of glass objects that revisit the industrial and repetitive methods of production, revealing a manufacturing step usually hidden. The upper part of the vase represents the continuity of the mold, a random glass form normally removed that she chooses to sublimate through a variation of colors. Each creation in the Volcano series is unique and reflects the beauty of Alissa Volchkova's gesture.

Alissa Volchkova
Paris-based French-Russian designer and artist Alissa Volchkova finds beauty in irregularity and imperfection. By transcending delicate materials such as glass, crystal or porcelain, she disrupts and reveals the uniqueness of materials by transforming them. Discover her interview here.
Alissa Volchkova works in a multitude of mediums with an experimental and unpredictable approach. She challenges the notions of beauty usually associated with perfection, regularity, smoothness and symmetry.
After several years of experience in architecture, she expands her prism to produce objects. Her work explores various production processes in a poetic and primitive way, developing the potential of materials by pushing their limits.
In her work, she revisits industrial and repetitive methods of production, even keeping unwanted stages of blowing in her creations, such as her Volcano series created by keeping the continuity of the mold, an excess of glass randomly formed and usually removed by the blowers. In these exquisitely beautiful creations, Alissa plays with the defect by exaggerating it to create a variation of vases that will never be identical.
Each vase is unique, numbered and signed. The vases are numbered by color.
