Designers - Landy Rakoto
Landy Rakoto
In the Pays de la Loire region of France, French-Malagasy ceramist and potter Landy Rakoto works with clay in the way some meditate. Her cups, bowls and vases with their suave nuances explore rustic yet brutalist aesthetics, with a penchant for bold yet delicate shapes.
Trained in the practice of lathe in Berlin in a community workshop in Neukölln and then with ceramist Jérémy Bellina, Landy Rakoto set up her own design studio in the attic of her house, an outbuilding of the 18th century Château de Brissac, upon her return to France in 2021.
In the heart of the Vallée de la Loire, the potter makes and hand models pieces of tableware and decoration inspired by ancient times, transforming the material from the earth into extraordinary everyday objects. An introspective practice that awakens a certain spirituality in her. The gesture repeated a thousand times, the joy of ordinary moments in the workshop, the heritage of a practice that is thousands of years old, are felt in her creations.
