Candy-colored, sensual lines, unusual materials and graphic waves: this is the playful and regressive creative mind of French designer Axel Chay. His trademark? Tubes and plumbing pipes that he transforms into seats, lights and offbeat sculptures.
Axel Chay is a self-taught artist from the Côte Bleue near Marseille. It is under the influence of the Mediterranean Sea that he immerses himself, inspired by evocative colors, graphic waves and sensual curves. An ode to women, to their solar sensuality and free spirit, which give birth to contemporary and sculptural pieces.
Today, in his family's workshop in the city of Marseille, Axel Chay works hand in hand with his brother Aimeric on the prototypes that define his collections. Rich of his experiences with the material, of which he knows all the secrets, his expertise is a real asset for the creation, design and manufacture of the pieces.
Axel Chay’s playground? Experimenting with new materials. Steel, aluminum, cork, wood, expanded foam or plaster enrich his technical and singular creations. Breaking with current design, Axel seeks above all rarity and a radical aesthetic that makes the object a sculptural piece with a real presence in a space.
