Candy. This is what the creations of glass artist Helle Mardahl, a Danish name on everyone's lips, look like. From her studio in Copenhagen, the designer works with blown glass, its irregularities and asperities to create pieces that look so sweet we want to eat them.
A graduate of Central Saint Martins in London, Helle Mardahl works at the intersection of art and function, encompassing sculpture, installation, painting, fashion and interior design in her work. Fragile yet robust, simple yet hyper-decorative, her creations are marked by a sense of sumptuousness and extravagance, combined with a precisely calibrated sense of eccentricity.
Her creative signature? Unreal curves and sweetened colors, inspired by the candy shops of her childhood. A dreamy and nostalgic creative inspiration influenced by personal memories but also by emblematic films like Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Helle has come full circle: as a child, dreaming of opening a candy shop.
