Louis Barthélémy is an illustrator but above all an Egyptophile. The French multidisciplinary artist and designer tells the story of ancient Egypt through poetic mythological tapestries: the desert landscapes of the Nile, the rituals of the pharaohs, love stories and erotic fantasies...
While enrolled in the fashion design course at Central Saint Martins, Louis Barthélemy began working with Dior as a scarf designer. For four years, always between Paris and London, he finally graduated in 2012. After a health crisis that redefines his priorities and provokes a thirst for authentic and human experiences, he moves to Marrakech and then to Cairo. He develops creative collaborations with artisans working in a variety of mediums in Morocco, Lebanon and Syria.
Today Louis Barthélémy embroiders cotton canvas and revives Egyptian craftsmanship by making "khayamiya", traditional frescoes made according to an age-old technique, and extends this know-how into the repertoire of renowned houses: Pierre Frey, Louboutin, Balineum...
At the heart of his practice is a deep commitment to the preservation and revival of traditional crafts threatened by globalization. He not only collaborates with artisans from all over the world but also contributes to making their work known, safeguarding their livelihoods and passing on their precious know-how.
