To have fun in order to create better. Awarded the Special Mention of the Jury at the Design Parade Hyères 2022 for his "distractions fonctionnelles", Stéven Coëffic is a French designer who diverts the uses and objects of everyday life to transform them into sensitive and offbeat curiosities.
It was in 2015, while studying at the École des Arts Décoratifs de Paris, that he began to explore the entertaining potentialities of functional objects. Since then, in his studio in Belleville, he imagines pieces that reveal playful and unusual uses, each in their own way: an invitation to rethink our habits. For example, a magnetized puck must be placed in a secret location to open a safe; a table lamp must be tilted to the side to light up... Each automatic device becomes a form of entertainment and creates an intimate link with the user.
These creations, as regressive in their forms as in their functions, are complexified by a delicate and precious material library: earthenware, glass, mahogany...
